Caitlin joined the United Ostomy Association of America
One site that I found particularly helpful was j-pouch.org. It has many forums about different topics and people respond to you very quickly. I found a great support network there.
While I was waiting to have surgery, I went on various websites to learn more about ostomies and j-pouches. One site that I found particularly helpful was www.j-pouch.org. It has many forums about different topics and people respond to you very quickly. I found a great support network there. After my surgery, I found a local ostomy support group that I went to. After I recovered and went back to work, I joined the UOAA (United Ostomy Association of America) and went to their conference they have every two years. It was in Jacksonville, FL and at the time I lived in Connecticut. It was my first trip alone. I am so happy I went because I met some wonderful people and I am very close with many of them today (this conference was in 2013). I wrote articles for the UOAA Magazine that helped me connect with others who shared similar stories. Apart from these, my family and friends were and continue to be my greatest support.
