From A Bigger Life

When you have been told you need stoma forming surgery you will have lots of questions about how long you will be in hospital and what to expect.

The length of stay would be around 7-10 days if you have a normal recovery. If you have been unwell before your surgery, your length of stay might be slightly increased.

During day 1-2 after surgery you won’t be expected to do a lot with your stoma pouch, the nurses on the ward will help you. Your Stoma Nurse will visit you and teach you how to manage your stoma. Once you are confident in being able to manage it you will be able to start planning to get home.
