If you drive a car, once you start recovering from surgery you will be thinking about starting to drive again. Just check with your own insurance company that you are covered to drive. A good tip would be to take your car to a quiet car park and practice doing an emergency stop, just to prepare yourself for any accidents or emergencies while you’re out on the main road.

Another little helpful tip would be to have a kit bag in your car with a new pouch and wipes, do remember to check it every once in a while as it could get damp from sitting in the car.

When you feel ready to start travelling to visit family and friends, go somewhere that is familiar to you for the first time. This will help build your confidence that you can travel with your new stoma without any other problems.
